Girls Fight Cancer with Glitz and Glamour

For 24 young girls, a recent getaway weekend replaced exam rooms with dressing rooms, hospital bracelets with stylish bangles, and MRI images with professional photographs.

Every year, teenagers and young women ages 13-23, who are being treated at Dana-Farber/Boston Children’s Cancer and Blood Disorders Center, go on a “Girls Weekend” in Boston. The weekend includes a musical, a makeover, shopping, and more.

The girls
The girls began their weekend with a shopping spree at H&M.
Shopping
They weren’t shy to fill up their shopping bags with pants, shirts, jewelry and hats.
They complimented each other as they saw their different styles emerge while they tried on outfits. “It was fun because it was just us girls,” said Gianna, pictured on the left.

The weekend, made possible by The Howard G. Gordon Family Teen Activities Fund, gives the girls a chance to have fun, meet new friends, and bond over their experiences.

After the shopping trip, the girls headed out to see “Annie the Musical.” But before the show started, the girls tried on silly costumes and posed for pictures in a photo booth.
